Greenlit Entertainment Joins TheRiot Agency

By Stu McLaughlin — July 20, 2019 — 2-minute read

This has been in motion for a while, and I'm excited to finally share it.

TheRiot Agency has acquired Greenlit Entertainment.

I'll be stepping into a full-time role as Creative Director at TRA — a role I've been operating in fractionally since 2017 — and Joshua Long will be joining as Director of Production.

Where Greenlit Started

When Joshua and I started the company, we saw a gap in how independent and smaller-budget productions were being positioned in the market. The filmmaking was there. The stories were there. But the infrastructure around marketing and distribution support wasn't.

EPKs, promotional content, and campaign strategy were either inaccessible or treated as an afterthought. So we focused on making that layer real.

We built Greenlit to give creators the same level of marketing and media support typically reserved for larger studios, and to treat each project like what it actually is: a brand competing for attention.

What We Built

Over time, that turned into more than just EPKs. We expanded into full campaign support — behind-the-scenes content, promotional media, and launch strategy. We worked with studios, distributors, and independent teams to bring projects to market in a way that actually connected.

That meant building repeatable production workflows, aligning creative with distribution requirements, and delivering assets that could operate across platforms and markets.

We had the opportunity to work on a range of projects along the way, from independent films to mid-market releases, and build something that held up under real timelines and expectations.

Where the Shift Happened

As the work evolved, so did the scope.

Projects didn't just need EPK assets — they needed structure around how those assets performed. Audience, positioning, distribution, and acquisition matter just as much as the creative itself.

At a certain point, it became clear that entertainment marketing isn't separate from broader go-to-market strategy. It's the same problem, just in a different context. That's where the overlap with TheRiot Agency became obvious.

Why This Made Sense

TheRiot Agency operates as a technology-first brand marketing agency, focused on connecting strategy, data, and execution to drive measurable outcomes.

Greenlit brought the creative and production engine. TRA brings the scale, systems, and acquisition infrastructure behind it.

Bringing the two together creates something more complete — creative that doesn't just exist, but actually performs.

What This Means Going Forward

Greenlit now operates as part of TheRiot Agency. Joshua will be leading production, and I'll be focused on continuing to build out the creative side — now with the ability to connect it directly into broader strategy, systems, and execution.

For clients, it means a more complete model. From concept and production through to positioning, distribution, and audience acquisition.

For us, it's the next step in what we originally set out to build — just with the infrastructure to take it further.

Closing

I'm proud of what we built with Greenlit. More importantly, I'm excited about what it becomes from here.
